How MatchMax matching works

See how MatchMax matches your child with a self-employed tutor, from posting a request to agreeing a regular weekly schedule.

MatchMax is a tutoring introduction service for Hong Kong families. You tell us what your child needs, a human coordinator reviews your request, and we introduce matched self-employed tutors for you to choose from. This page walks through the whole journey, step by step.

The matching process end to end

1. Post a request

Start by describing what you need: the subject, the curriculum your child is studying (for example DSE, IB, IGCSE, or A-Level), your budget range, and your availability, including whether you prefer Face-to-face / in-home lessons or sessions on Zoom. The more specific you are, the better the matches. If you are not sure what to include, request a tutor and get matched explains it in detail.

2. A human coordinator screens your request

Your request is reviewed by a real coordinator, not an algorithm alone. They check that the subject, level, budget, and schedule are clear, and they may follow up if anything is missing. Once it is ready, they look for tutors on MatchMax whose experience and specialism genuinely fit.

3. MatchMax introduces matched tutors

The coordinator introduces you to self-employed tutors who fit your request. You can read each tutor's profile and choose the right tutor for your child before committing to anyone. The choice is always yours.

4. Lessons 1 and 2 are the supported concierge window

The first two lessons are the supported part of the matching. If the fit is not right, tell the coordinator and we can introduce other tutors. This window exists so you can settle in without pressure. After it, scheduling and communication move to a direct arrangement with your tutor.

5. Agree a regular weekly schedule directly

Once you are happy with your tutor, you agree the ongoing weekly schedule, lesson times, and any rescheduling rules directly with them. MatchMax steps back from the day-to-day arrangement at this point. If a lesson needs to move, see how to reschedule or cancel a lesson.

What MatchMax is, and what it is not

MatchMax introduces parents and tutors. It is not a tuition agency that employs tutors or holds payments, and it is not the tutor's employer. Tutors on MatchMax are self-employed: you pay your tutor directly for tuition by FPS, bank transfer, or cash. MatchMax never holds or processes tuition payments, and parents never pay MatchMax a matching fee or commission. Instead, the tutor pays MatchMax an administrative matching fee of 100% of Lesson 1 plus 50% of Lesson 2, as set out in our Terms of Service. That means the fee sits with the tutor's first lessons, not with your wallet.

What verification does and does not cover

Every tutor's documents are checked before they appear on MatchMax, and you can read how that works in how MatchMax verifies tutors. Verification confirms a tutor's identity and stated qualifications. It does not guarantee grades, school offers, or results, and MatchMax is not affiliated with or endorsed by the IB, HKEAA, or any school.
