Pay your tutor directly and billing cycles
Parents pay the tutor directly by FPS, bank transfer, or cash, agree the rate and billing cycle with the tutor, and keep simple records of what was paid.

On MatchMax, your tuition money goes straight to your tutor, never through us. This guide explains how payment works, how to agree a billing cycle that suits both sides, and what to do if a payment question comes up.
Parents always pay the tutor directly
You pay your tutor for tuition by FPS, bank transfer, or cash, depending on which methods the tutor offers. Most Hong Kong tutors and families use FPS because it is instant and free, and a payment note with the student's name and lesson date keeps things tidy. MatchMax never holds or processes tuition payments, and parents never pay MatchMax a matching fee, commission, or escrow. There is no middle account, no top-up wallet, and no waiting for anyone to release your money.
Agree the rate, lesson length, and billing cycle with the tutor
Because tutors set their own rates, you agree the hourly rate, the lesson length, and the billing cycle directly with your tutor before the first lesson. Common cycles are:
- Per lesson: pay after each lesson. Simple, and good for the first few weeks while the schedule settles.
- Weekly: pay at the end of each week for the lessons that week. Popular for regular one or two lesson schedules.
- Monthly: pay at the end of each month. Suits long-running arrangements with a fixed weekly slot.
Whichever you choose, confirm it in writing in the same WhatsApp thread where you arrange lessons, so there is one place to check later.
Keep simple records
You do not need an accounting system, just a habit. Note each lesson's date and the amount paid, and keep the FPS or transfer confirmation screenshots in one album. If the tutor prefers to send a simple receipt or a monthly summary message, even better. These records make month-end counts painless and settle any "did we cover the 14th?" questions in seconds.
If a payment question comes up
Start with your tutor: a polite message with the date and amount usually resolves things quickly, because it is almost always a lesson-count or timing mix-up. If you cannot reach an agreement, or something does not feel right, contact MatchMax support and we will help you work it out with the tutor. MatchMax does not hold your money, so we cannot reverse a transfer, but we can help both sides get to a fair answer promptly.
What MatchMax does and does not take
MatchMax does not take a cut of your tuition. The tutor pays MatchMax a separate administrative matching fee of 100% of Lesson 1 plus 50% of Lesson 2 per the Terms of Service §15, and it is the tutor, not the parent, who pays it. After that, the tutor keeps 100% of the agreed tuition for later lessons. For the full picture, including a worked example in HKD, read Understand zero parent commission and tutor admin fees.
